Vacuum Repair – The DIY Way
Many people throw their vacuums right away and resort to purchasing new ones whenever their old vacuum breaks down. What many do not know is that common vacuum problems only involve the belt, the agitator brush, or just a blockage. Doing the repair yourself can save you a great deal of money. You will be surprised just how easy repairing Sanitaire vacuums actually is.
The most common problem of vacuums is belt malfunction. To find out if it is indeed the belt, have the vacuum’s brush face you by flipping it on its front. You will need to unscrew the small plate around the brush and you will then see and check the belt. The belt may have snapped already or has wrapped a portion of itself around the brush. In such case, bring the belt with you and go to your nearest hardware store and purchase a new one. Many stores carry vacuum cleaner repair parts.
You can check the agitator brush as well. It is common problem for it to get tangled with strings, hair, and carpet pieces. You can just cut all of these and replace back the belt and screw once you are done and your vacuum will be in working condition right away.
In cases where your vacuum has poor suction, one of the hoses may be blocked. You can check the hoses one at a time. If needed, consult your owner’s manual to ensure you do everything properly. Once you find and remove the blockage, your vacuum will be good as new.
